| Welcome to the home of Palmetto Shutterbugs! |
Thanks for stopping by today! ... We appreciate YOUR interest in our group & photography in general. Our organization was formed in 2006 for digital and film users located within South Carolina.
News & Updates
9/15/08 We're still here ... just in the form of a forum these days. I, Chris Moore, founder of Palmetto Shutterbugs, decided to take a much needed break earlier this year and focus on my growing family, business, career and local chapter (Sumter Digital Camera Club). I thought that I placed something in the news & updates section several months ago about our little "break," but didn't see it so I decided to give you an update. If you are interested in photography take a look at the chapters section, several of the groups are still active and meeting, however others have closed their doors or taking breaks too. I invite you to our Sumter group -- a great group I must say -- with monthly numbers of around 3 dozen attendees and great speakers. Keep checking the site for events & shows that will be open to you and the other photographers from around the Palmetto State. Join us on the forum too! ~ take care and keep shooting! :)
3/15/08 Members of various Palmetto Shutterbugs chapters attended a group photoshoot at The Center for Birds of Prey in Charleston, SC this weekend on March 15. The walk-a-bout was spearheaded by the Coastal Carolina Photography Group. Thanks to Susan and Marti of the CCPG for their hard work in planning and executing this wonderful event. We look forward to the next gathering.
3/03/08 Just wanted to let everyone know that we are taking a break at the moment. The spring is a busy time of year for me personally and I haven't had much communication between the groups since the summer of 2007, so well be back soon. Keep in touch and keep checking the site for updates.
1/17/08 Information from our Sumter Chapter: The SDCC will hold its 1st workshop of the New Year will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 7pm in the community meeting room at Sumter Mall (where we hold our monthly meetings).
This month's topic is "How to Use Your Camera" and will be perfect for all of you who received new digital cameras for Christmas! Fellow SDCC member, Pete Lawrence, will be giving a walkthrough of basic camera settings (such as Program, Shutter, Aperture Priority, and Manual Modes, etc.). He will explain their function and purpose and let you know which setting will work best in certain situations. Details provided by
Pete: This will be hands on workshop so you will need to bring your
camera and book. I will be talking about things that effect light; ISO,
shutter speed and aperture. Then I will talk about the situations that
suggest one mode over another on your camera. Which in turn will lead
to discussing manual mode and then finishing with things that further
effect exposure such as white balance.
The workshop is FREE for members of the Sumter Digital Camera Club. There is a cost of $10 for nonmembers or guests.
Please send me an email (info@sumtershutterbugs.com) no later than Tuesday morning so that we know many to expect, have refreshments for and seating for.
1/15/08 We're still alive and well here within the Palmetto Shutterbugs umbrella, well rested and ready to go again. I personally took some time off toward the end of 2007 mainly because I needed it and from my experience the period between Thanksgiving and the first part of January is a hard time to get anything accomplished. With all of us having family and other social events/functions, traveling, and everyone on vacation nobody is interested in doing "business" then. So now looking toward to the rest of 2008, it's a new year met with new challenges, but we are ready. Our group is growing and evolving to meet the needs of our participants. I challenge YOU to get involved within your local chapter and help where you can. A group can not run by itself or be successful without a commitment to lend a hand from its members. We will schedule a presidents meeting along with a walk-a-bout (group field trip) and a possible workshop for all of you very soon. Stay tuned to the website and the forum for more details about this and many more exciting events to come.
9/22/07 Here we grow again! ... We have added another chapter to our association thus bringing the total to eleven (11) groups under PS. At this time, I would like to welcome on board The Lowcountry Photographic Club of Charleston(their site). We are excited about the opportunity to work with our newly group and its members in the coming months and years to come.

Session Evening/Late
Afternoon Session
6/27/07 Well folks, we have added another chapter and have updated another one this week. Just yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, we added the Myrtle Beach Camera Club led by Amy Ross and the Columbia Photo Meetup Group led by Keith Haig. The Columbia group moves forward as our premier Capital City club as Brandon Davis has been busy with his duties/studies at Carolina and wasn't able to jump start a group in our state's capital thus far. I want to welcome our newest additions. Both of these groups show huge potential, as do all our groups, as we move forward and continue to cover more of the Palmetto State.
6/22/07 Here we grow again! ... We have added another chapter, making that two in one week, and bringing us total of nine groups under PS. At this time, I would like to welcome on board The Photography Club of Beaufort (their site). We are excited about the opportunity to work with our newly added lowcountry groups, Beaufort and Hilton Head. Now all we have to do is take Charleston! ... THIS WEEKEND: Several members of the Sumter Digital Camera Club are meeting downtown Sumter near the intersection of Main and Liberty Streets for a evening shoot. On Saturday morning, a group from the Kershaw Photo Club will be in Sumter as well photographing the charm of Sumter's crown jewel, Swan Lake-Iris Gardens. So HAPPY SHOOTING and I hope you guys have a great weekend!
6/20/07 We're still here! Even though I haven't updated this section in a while, Palmetto Shutterbugs is ALIVE and well. We have grown again, just this morning we added our eighth chapter. We would like to welcome the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island (their site) to our group. We look forward to working with them for many years to come. Stay tuned as information about our quarterly statewide meeting and walk-a-bout will be out the first of next week. Also if you aren't a member of the forum, make sure to sign up so you have the latest information and can share you photos. Have a great day! :)
