The Sumter Opera House

Built in 1872, the opera house’s authentic Art Deco interior is the setting for a variety of shows including modern dance, live theatre and musical performances. The 100-foot clock tower is a landmark visible from any part of the downtown

LeNoir Store

Located off of SC Hwy 261 in Horatio

The LeNoir family has been operating this establishment since sometime between 1765 and 1808. LeNoir Country & General Store is typical of a vanishing breed - the country crossroads store. In addition to still handling a variety of goods and many original items, historical memorabilia is on display. Enjoy a cool drink, some ol' fashioned penny candy and a country chat with the LeNoirs.

Memorial Park

Sumter County Museum

Houses over 108,000 artifacts
including furnishings, photographs, decorative arts, and textile and agricultural tools. Behind the museum are relocated 19th century cabins and
farm buildings used by re-enactors to provide a living history.

Swan Lake-Iris Gardens

The beautiful black waters of Swan Lake form the setting for the spectacular Iris Gardens. The lake is dotted with colorful islands, and wildlife is abundant. The only public park in the United States to feature all eight swan species, Swan Lake-Iris Gardens is also home to some of the nation's most intensive plantings of Japanese iris, which bloom yearly in mid to late May and last until the beginning of June.

Temple Sinai

This synagogue, which is
on the national register, was first
built as a wooden structure in the
1800’s. It was replaced by a brick
building, dedicated in the spring of
1913. A substantial remodeling of
the sanctuary was celebrated in a
rededication service in 1969. The
sanctuary features eleven stained glass windows that depict Biblical scenes, with each picture accompanied by a quotation from its respective book
of the Hebrew Scriptures.

   
 

Salem Black River Church & Cemetery

Located off of SC Hwy 527 in Northeastern Sumter County.

Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, built in 1846, is a well-preserved example of Greek Revival architecture. From the time of its organization in the mid-eighteenth century until the present, Salem Church has played an important role in the development of history of the surrounding rural community. The church has been virtually unaltered since its construction. It features massive stucco-over-brick columns, a gable roof and a pedimented portico. Basilican in plan, the interior of Salem Black River Church is simple. A slave gallery extends along three sides and is supported by square paneled wooden pillars. Listed in the National Register November 14, 1978.

Church of the Holy Cross

Located off of SC 261 in Stateburg.

This Gothic Revival Sanctuary (c.1850) is the burial site of Joel Poinsett, a US statesman credited with discovering the poinsettia in Mexico and bringing it to the U.S., where it became synonymous with Christmas. The cemetery contains the graves of nearly 100 Revolutionary and Civil War veterans. The church sanctuary is closed to visitors.

   
 

White's Mill Pond

Located off of US 15 North about 3 miles outside of Sumter heading toward Bishopville.

White's Mill features a pond and lakehouse, which can be photographed from the nearby bridge.

Bluegrass Express was created exclusively for broadcast on ETV’s South Carolina Channel. The show is taped at the historic Sumter Opera House in Sumter, South Carolina on Thursday nights! Admission is free- everyone can come be a part of the live audience. Doors open at 6:30p.m., and the show begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. Bluegrass Express is produced by Bruce Mayer.

Iris Festival

Sumter's Iris Festival is South Carolina's oldest continuous festival and is ranked among the top festivals in the Southeast. The 4-day festival includes concerts, an arts and crafts show, a golf tournament, a flower show, a food tasting, the crowning of the Iris Festival king and queen, and a number of contests and children's activities.

Sumter's Swan Lake-Iris Gardens -- the main staging area for the Iris Festival -- is home to all eight types of the world's swans including swans from Asia, Australia, England and South America.
